Dear Climate Smart friends,

I am writing to let you know that at the end of June, I will be stepping away from my day-to-day role as Vice President and Training Manager. It has been an incredible ten years helping Climate Smart grow from a pilot program at Ecotrust Canada, into a separate start-up, and now into a flourishing social enterprise with enormous potential. I am fortunate to have worked with and learned from all the inspiring people inside Climate Smart businesses and at our host partner organizations. And I am immensely proud of the impact we’ve achieved together, and of the concrete action taken to reduce GHG emissions.

Press Release – Canada Has “200 Million Tonne Opportunity” to Address Warming

VANCOUVER — As governments turn over rocks in search of opportunities to cut carbon emissions, a new report concludes that a leading solution may be hidden in plain sight.

Canada’s 1.2+ million small- and medium-sized businesses have direct control over roughly 200 million tonnes of carbon pollution, the same amount produced each year by every car, truck, train, plane, and ship in the country, the report finds. With coaching and support, these businesses could significantly shrink Canada’s overall carbon footprint, its authors conclude.

Climate Smart Story: Nature’s Path

Climate Smart certified since 2014, Nature’s Path Foods Inc. has reduced their GHG emissions by 917 tonnes (4%) while cutting annual costs by $344,000. The company has rolled out several initiatives including: 1) efficient use of intermodal shipping, 2) a “Green My Ride” program for employees, 3) process improvements, and 4) zero-waste certification. Underpinning these efforts are employee sustainability goals and individual key performance indicators to engage all team members at all facilities. Check out the full story here!
